Hey all,

I'm curious...I've heard good things about Vonage from a person I know
and trust, and various good and bad things about Packet8 from a
variety of people who I don't know.

I'm curious what various people's opinions on both services are,
whether they use the same equipment, etc. Quality of service,
availability, voice clarity, required bandwidth, latency/lag, etc. are
all issues I'm concerned about. Also, Packet8 seems to have a lower
price, which is also appealing, but I'd gladly pay a little more per
month for a better service.

Additionally, I'd be using the phone adapter on the LAN side of a
Linksys NAT router. Both services say that they'll work just fine with
such a setup, but I just want to make sure. I don't feel comfortable
poking huge ranges of holes in my router, so if there's a way to keep
it working without huge swaths of ports open would be nice too.
This would be used either over 1.5Mbps/384kbps ADSL line at home, or a
Comcast (ugh) cable line in an army barracks where I'm currently
stationed.

Replies by email would be highly appreciated -- I'm trapped using
Google Groups here in the barracks.

Cheers!

Check this out, SIP compliant, and packet8 has SIP gateways to connect
from internet.... Router is embedded in this device.
