recommend Ethernet DOCSIS 2.0 modem? Timothy Daniels 09-28-2005

I've decided to stop renting a cable modem
and to buy an Ethernet DOCSIS 2.0 cable
modem. I'm looking for reliability and connection
stability and cool running. Is there a model you
feel you can recommend? Any extensive credible
reviews of 4 or more brands?

Can you recommend one that combines an
Ethernet DOCSIS 2.0 modem with a router?

Any Motorola 51xx model would probably be the consensus.

No - keep them separate. Netgear or Linksys are cheap and solid.
And when you need a modem replacement you still have a router.

$29.95 for a Netgear wireless G router with 4-port switch at
your local Circuit City this week.

Thanks for your reply. Even from just a cooling angle,
the Motorolas look good.

Step one. Find out what your cable company is willing to support.

Called Comcast. Tech Support says that anything DOCSIS
1.x or 2.0 compliant is acceptable.
