A story today on KYW news radio web site (title is "Buxco Cops Save Man
Trapped Under Car") has this tidbit about use of cell phone to locate an
accident victim:
The victim was in a junkyard and became trapped under a car which fell
on top of him. He used his cell phone to call for help, but then the
phone went quiet (he apparently became unconscious).
An officer who responded turned on his siren, drove around the junkyard,
and told the dispatcher to listen for the siren becoming loud. That
soon happened, and the victim was found. The location was "like two or
three cars back", so it would have taken much longer to find the victim
without the siren/cellphone scheme I just described.
