Hi,

I would like to get some ideas for designing my company's LAN network.

1. My company has around 400 users
2. The LAN backbone is using C4506 layer3 switch
3. some VLANs are set up to separate departmental networks

I would like to know if the LAN servers are separated by VLAN ( an
independant VLAN --- own broadcast domain), is better or not.

1. VLAN1 dedicated for LAN servers
2. other VLANs for individual departments

and idea or suggestions are highly appreciated.

I just wonder which is better, broadcast domain or routing( VLAN )

Thank you

Neither one is intrinsically better. It depends what your design goals are.

Segmenting off your servers is normally done as this network requires a
different security policy to your users.

Hi, Ben,

Thank you for your comment.

So, what is your suggestion based on network access speed ?

I know security can be configured through switch ( internal -- packet
filtering, externally -- firewall ).

Thank you
Benson
