Hi there
we have to buy a switch with 3 x 1000base-sx links and 1 x 1000base-T
link. This is for the center of a star topology network. What is a good
brand which doesn't cost too much?
We expect the three fibre links to be quite near to their maximum
throughput at least in some hours of the day because there are a hundred
of PCs and some servers attached to the optical ends, overall, and one
PC uploads 50GB of data to a file server each day, and many other PCs
use a windows domain from a file server, and all this stuff passes
through this "optical" switch in the center of the network. The switch
should be capable of handling that, with good reliability, but possibly
not too expensive.
I have been suggested the D-Link DGS-3024 for the other 3 extremities of
the network, but for the center of the star that would mean to add 3
optical modules and there would be 23 unused copper ports out of 24.
That might be unoptimal...
Thanks
