My Visa statement shows an unexplained charge for $25 attributed to
WEB CALLING US WEB 800-6240914 CO on January 19th. Googling a bit, I
find that other people have had spurious charges with 800-6240914 in
the description.

800-624-0914 is "Verizon Web Calling" and all I got when I dialed it
was an automated phone tree.

I do not do business with Verizon in any way.

Can anyone tell me what's going on???

[TELECOM Digest Editor's Note: I would have immediatly called my Visa
card issuer and firmly disputed the matter. That would have required
Visa to work its way through the phone-mail tree, but you would have
gotten an almost immediate credit on your Visa card. Also, what you
can almost always do with those phone trees is repeatedly press zero
over and over until a live person comes on the line. PAT]
