I had a similar problem in 2005 and I used a program called
PingPlotter to graphically show periods of downtime, as in time and
duration. The next Tech that showed up seemed impressed, but who
knows.
I don't think it helped him find and repair the problem, (he did that
on his own), but it did seem to help him understand that there was
indeed a problem, which is usually the biggest hurdle.
