If your machine was optioned for even parity. The ones I used (as
local computer terminals, where txn errors were not a concern) had
'mark parity' (a slight misnomer) so the KB couldn't generate all-0.
But the answerback drum was by factory default 20 x all-0, so if you
didn't 'program' it (and we didn't) HEREIS generated 2" blank tape.

I don't know if all/particular Baudot machines had drums, although I
understood Telex service (also) used a/b so at least most must have.
And to a followup that wasn't threaded (on my feed at least), ASCII
(33 etc.) ENQ/WRU was ctrl-E.
