I've been investigating the NC-1 site:

http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A15267
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=N+35%C2%B0+46.846+W+079%C2%B0+04.613&ie=UTF8&ll=35.782501,-79.073946&spn=0.00611,0.010042&t=k&z=17&om=1

Since AUTOVON has been replaced, why are these facilities still in
operation? What are the microwave towers doing?

They are used by the government for mind control:)

Just because Autovon is not used, the replacement system is. It could be
that those microwave towers are being used as some kind of backhaul.
Or they can even be turned off, and the only thing that remains is the
towers.

If the tower was like the one I used to live near:

Another company bought this site on 1999 or so and leased it to Verizon
Wireless as a long-range omnidirectional cell site. It was not American
Tower, I remember that much.
