I am trying to set up my PIX 501 with a static IP given from my ISP.
I am able to access the internet from my network when the PIX is set
to its factory default configuration as dynamic on the outside
interface, but when I set it to static and put the IP and subnet mask,
nothing. Also using the wizard does not work. I am guessing it has
something to do with the NAT. I use the PDM to access the PIX. I am
not using the PIX as a DHCP server.

Thanks

OK, I want users to access the server with remote desktop connection,
but do not want them to have to use Cisco VPN client. How do I set up
the PIX (using PDM) to allow that to pass through if I have only one
static IP. Set the server as a static IP and configure the PIX to
allow connections to it through the port (3389)? This is less secure
but it is easier for the everyday user.

ANY thoughts would be appreciated

Ok mr <smarty> pants, in the time you spent making your <witty>
response you could have answered the question since you are a
experienced user of this group, even if the answer did not involve the
<use> of the PDM which you obviously disdain for some <im too good for
it> reason. I do not have the console cable that came with the PIX
and I can access the PDM, so what is the problem?

Woo, slow down there sparky.

- you came to this group for help, so responding with a smart ass remark
like that, especially to a well respected member of this group like
Walter, who is probably the most knowledgeable person in the group to
assist you, is not going to get you far.

- people who use Cisco devices, do not use the PDM, so most people in
the group, would not be able to assist you.

- console cable? who the hell needs that? can you not use telnet over
the network? Can you not spend the 2 minutes to find out how to either
make a rollover cable or buy one off ebay for about .50?

- If you do not like the help you got, then do not use it. What are you
paying us to do your job for you?

- I would recommend issuing an apology to Walter and the group, and
re-phrase your question and go sit in timeout.

Strange fetish, but I've heard of weirder.

Here is two pence worth of free advice: you aren't obligated to
read -any- of my postings. When you google
group:comp.dcom.sys.cisco feel free to add -author:roberson
You will toss out the 56 times I have already given the CLI
answer for the same question for the exact port the original
poster was asking about, but I am not the only person who answers
questions here, and you will find a hackable answer somewhere
amongst the other postings.

In the meantime... well, you might note that no-one else has
chimed in with instructions on how to make this particular
change by using PDM. I just put up my PDM consulting rates,
by the way; the rates I listed earlier in this thread are no longer
valid.
