I recently purchased a new, unlocked Motorola V180 that was manufactured
for Vodafone Germany (the manual is in German, and the supplied web
sessions configuration is for Vodafone DE). It's a tri-band 900/1800/1900
phone (which is fine since the SIM that's to be used with that phone is no
good in North America, hence no need for 850).

The phone works fine, and definitely is new. But what was bizarre is that
the usual Motorola power-commands:
        MENU 00 ** TESTMODE *        (MENU 00**83786633*)
        MENU 00 ** TESTOFF *        (MENU 00**8378633*)
        ## DEBUG                (##33284)
        MENU 048263*
don't work. Every reasonably modern Motorola phone that I've tried has at
least these commands (the TDMA and CDMA phones had additional commands).

Anyone have any ideas as to what may be going on?
