The Phila Inqr reported that the FCC wants wireless carriers to
provide 8 hours of battery power backup at every cell tower. The
carriers are resisting and appealing the order. (Except for Verizon,

cell sites, most famously during a 2003 blackout that kept much of the
Northeast in the dark for hours, but not Verizon customers. )
