If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
Am I right that it would be a problem having a default route that used
the interface (ie. fastethernet 2/0) and not the next-hop IP address if
that interface is an ethernet interface on a LAN?

The problem I see is that when the router went to send a frame out that
interface (unless the frame happened to be destined for that LAN) it
wouldn't have a destination IP address that would be able to be
resolved to a destination MAC address so it would be unable to build
the frame.

Actually, I will work for some time. The thing is that router will have
an ARP entry for every destination your packets were going (the MAC
address in every ARP entry will be the same if you have just 1 exit
point).

Eventually, your ARP table could become too big and interfere with
normal router operations.
