Bonjour,

Perhaps Rich Siefer could bring, as he pleases, some elements to
understand better the table in the section B.1.2 page 509 of IEEE
802.3-2005 (the part 1).

This table exists since a long time, and refers to 10Base5 (figure
B-1).

What is the meaning of "JAM OUTPUT => OUTPUT IDLE" associated to the
classical value of 96 BT?

If it was the first jam bit to the beginning of idle, it would be 32
BT.
If it was jam output duration with the idle detection, it would be 32
+ 96 BT.

Thanks for your advice,
Michelot

It would be perhaps the minimum length of the collision fragment,
including preamble and jam signal.

In the figure B-1 page 509 of 802.3-2005, in the reverse direction,
the repeater set 1 sends this fragment to DTE 2, and it makes the
worst-case condition to determine the minimum frame length.

But we are in 1980-1983!

Best regards,
Michelot
